I had to go to the sorting office to pick up another parcel today. Although it was still early, the day was already hot and on the way back I decided to cut through the old market hall, somewhere I hadn’t been before. If nothing else, I would be out of the sun for a few minutes and it looked like there might be some interesting little shops in there so I’d probably be out of the sun for a bit longer. I love places like this as they usually have unusual and individual shops, not the big chain names.
I felt like Alice must have done when she fell down the rabbithole! What had I stepped into? It looked like a cafe, but it isn’t, as far as I can tell. In the centre was a small closed up kiosk that houses a little business called The Button Tin. The market hall was completely deserted and it felt like I’d stepped into another world. It was cool, shady and peaceful – pure magic! I shall definitely be finding out more about what goes on here. I think it could be right up my street.
In other news, I attended my first quilting workshop yesterday. I loved it! I can see this becoming a serious passion. I have laid out my squares and sewn a few together. My ‘homework’ is to get the rest sewn up by next Wednesday, if I can. It’s only a lap quilt and will have 9 blocks of 4 squares, so I should be able to do it once I finish this set of nights. I’ve ordered a folding table for the bedroom so I can set up and sew in there. There’s room at one end to set up the table and it has decent natural light. I’m itching to get started!
I can’t wait to get through this set of nights (tonight will be my first of 4 shifts). Once I’ve got them out of the way, I’m off for the next 2 sets which means I’m off for almost 3 weeks. I am so ready to take a break. We’ll be going away for a few days: 2 nights in Durham and 2 in Whitby. Roll on Monday morning!
